Inside Aunty Chelli's Fridge

My uncle adores his wife's cooking....who wouldn't. Thats why when my aunt goes to visit relatives in Perth, she deep freezes containers of different curries and other dishes which he can heat up to eat. My uncle is soo lucky. After seeing these in her fridge today I was truly temped to swipe some.

Aunty Chelli has even listed out all the various dishes available and placed it on the fridge. Now thats what I call efficient.

The clock in her kitchen is so cute that I couldn't help taking a photo.

Dolka for Tea

My aunt is currently visiting her daughter D in Perth. When my cousin, D, sent me these photos from Perth, I felt so hungry. Click on the pictures to make them bigger to see what I mean. They just sent my tastebuds into spasms. I so badly wanted to have some.

D said her mum made some Dolka (fried savoury dish) for tea for friends who were coming over. The main ingredients are semolina, onions, chilli and corn flour for the dough. For the chutney or dip she used coconut, youghurt, mint and green chilli. I have to wait till next year when Aunty Chelli is back to devour some of these new creations.

Wedding Engagement Cake

This is the first time I am seeing a picture of the cake. She's on holiday at her home in Perth now, and sent me a picture from there. Wow I didn't know my aunt could make such pretty, decorative cakes. I have never seen her make cakes with hard icing before. I am quite impressed, because I suck at cooking and also she is not a trained baker/chef but self-taught. I know I must sound like a biased niece, but I really think she has a hidden talent.

Orange and Lime Punch

Pineapple Tarts

The pineapple jam filling is made from scratch (pineapple grated then cooked with sugar). The tart is so smooth that it just melts in your mouth. Sooo yummy! Just looking at it makes me crave for more.

Buffet

Chicken Curry

Prawn Sambal

Mutton Masala Curry

Stir Fried Cabbage

This stir-fried. finely shredded cabbage dish is another of our favourites. Egg and carrots are also included.

Sothi

Sothi is a rich coconut based curry with a generous helping of onions, tomatoes etc. This is usually eaten with string hoppers and other curries. Family members and friends who are invited to her parties adore her sothi as it is really creamy and rich. As I lifted the dish cover to take a photo, a lovely rich fragrance greeted me.

Puttu

Aunty Chelli makes all her dishes from scratch. Puttu is a popular Ceylonese staple with origins from Kerala. It is actually steamed rice flour with freshly grated coconut.

Tahu Goreng

My Aunty Chelli makes the best home made local food. Here is her Tahu Goreng which she whipped up in just a few minutes. A delectable vegetarian salad dish. The whole family is always eager to devour more of her creations.
